National Social Insurance Fund

NSIF Benefits

Under the National Social Insurance Fund Act, 2023, employers and employees are required to make a statutory contribution of 25% to the National Social Insurance Fund (NSIF) in which (17% shall be the Employer’s contribution and 8% shall be the Employee’s contribution)

In return, contributors are entitled to a range of social security benefits, including retirement pension, invalidity pension, survivors’ pension, funeral grant, maternity benefits, employment injury benefits, and health insurance benefits, subject to the conditions prescribed by the Act.

List of NSIF Benefits Offered

👴 Age / Retirement Benefit

Eligibility:

Members are eligible for this benefit when they reach the age of 55 years, or when they ultimately retire from regular employment.

How to apply:

Visit your nearest NSIF office with:

  • A certified copy of your retirement letter OR certificate of service OR termination letter
  • NSIF Membership Card
  • National Identity Card / Passport / Alien ID
  • Bank details for EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)
  • Two recent passport-size photographs

📋 You will be issued with the appropriate application forms and advised on the steps to take in order to complete the benefits application.

💰 Withdrawal Benefit

Eligibility:

Members are eligible for this benefit if they are at least 50 years of age and they have retired from regular paid employment.

How to apply:

Visit your nearest NSIF office with the following documents:

  • A certified copy of your retirement letter OR certificate of service OR termination letter
  • NSIF Membership Card
  • National Identity Card / Passport / Alien ID
  • Bank details for EFT

📋 You will be issued with the appropriate application forms and advised on the steps to take in order to complete the benefits application.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Survivors Benefit

This benefit is paid to:

Dependant(s) / relative(s) of a deceased member. The dependant relatives qualify for this benefit in the following order:

  • The husband/wife of the deceased member
  • All children irrespective of age or gender
  • The parents of the deceased (if the deceased member was not married and had no children)
  • Sisters/brothers of the deceased
  • The guardian to the children of the deceased member
  • An applicant who has letters of administration

How to apply:

Visit your nearest NSIF office with the following documents:

  • Original death certificate of the member
  • Photocopy of the deceased member's Identity Card
  • Claimant's National ID Card / Passport
  • Letter from County Administration confirming dependants
  • NSIF member number of the deceased
  • Bank details for EFT

♿ Invalidity Benefit

This benefit is paid to:

  • Members certified to be permanently incapable of working due to physical or mental disability
  • Members at least 50 years of age with partial permanent incapacity

How to apply:

Visit your nearest NSIF office with the following documents:

  • NSIF Membership Card
  • National Identity Card / Passport
  • A certified copy of your retirement letter OR termination letter on medical grounds
  • Medical/treatment report from the hospital
  • Bank details for EFT

📋 NOTE: You will be examined by the Fund's appointed doctor for confirmation of invalidity.

✈️ Emigration Benefit

This benefit is paid to:

Members emigrating from South Sudan without the intention of returning.

How to apply:

Visit your nearest NSIF office with the following documents:

  • NSIF Membership Card
  • National ID Card / Valid Passport
  • A certified copy of retirement/termination letter
  • Evidence of migration - VISA / Residence Permit
  • Sworn Affidavit declaring permanent immigration
  • Bank details for EFT

⚰️ Funeral Grant

Eligibility:

This grant is paid to the person who has undertaken the funeral expenses of a deceased member.

How to apply:

Visit your nearest NSIF office with the following documents:

  • Original death certificate of the member
  • NSIF Membership Card of the deceased (if available)
  • Claimant's National ID Card / Passport
  • Funeral expenses receipt/invoice
  • Letter from Local Authority confirming the claimant undertook the burial
